Curriculum Expectations

Grade 10 (Pre-expectations)

Overall Expectation:

  • B2: Investigate cell division, cell specialization, organs, and systems in animals and plants, using research and inquiry skills, including various laboratory techniques (SNC2D)

Specific Expectations:

  • B2.2 Examine cells under a microscope or similar instruments to identify the various stages of mitosis in animals (SNC2D)

  • B3.1 Describe the cell cycle in animals, and explain its importance for the growth of cells and repair of tissues (SNC2D)

Grade 11

Overall Expectation:

  • D2: Investigate genetic processes, including those that occur during meiosis, and analyse data to solve basic genetic problems involving monohybrid and dihybrid crosses (SBI3U)

Specific Expectations:

  • D3.1: Explain the phases in the process of meiosis in terms of cell division, the movement of chromosomes, and crossing over of genetic material (SBI3U)

  • D3.2: Explain the concepts of DNA, genes, chromosomes, alleles, mitosis, and meiosis, and how they account for the transmission of hereditary characteristics according to Mendelian laws of inheritance (SBI3U
